With the kids off and things more relaxed, summer is a great time to do all the ‘stuff’ we sometimes don’t have time for the rest of the year. And experiencing more culture is often at the top of our ‘Should-Do’ Lists. As a real estate agent in Newfoundland, I know how important it is to support our wonderful communities and talent, so here’s a list of some upcoming festivals that should be fun and enriching for the whole family.
Shakespeare by the Sea Festival – July 5 – August 18
No worries if you’ve missed your yearly (monthly? weekly?) dose of Shakespeare this July – there’s still plenty of performances left this August in the longest running outdoor summer theatre event in the area. And it’s not only Shakespearean plays you can experience – see their full lineup, here.
Tuckamore Chamber Music Festival – August 3 – August 17
Music lovers rejoice – you’ve got two weeks of moving, dynamic music performances coming up, plus master classes, children’s concerts and some free music rehearsals.
Busker Festival – August 8 – 10
A local favourite. Head downtown and enjoy buskers performing all sorts of acts, from magicians to chalk artists. There’s plenty to see, especially with at least one show every hour.
A Construction of Faith – August 12 – 30
Travel back in time and see the Basilica of St. John the Baptist as you never have, through the eyes of the important Bishop Fleming who led its construction. This one-man play and tour will be presented 12 times this August, letting guests learn the turbulent history of this National Historic Site as they tour its remarkable halls.
Art Marathon Festival – August 13 – 17
Perfect if you want to squeeze in a lot of art, this festival features local and international artists sharing their work, offering workshops and discussions, and, as the name suggests, a marathon of 24 hour live art-making. Expect your thoughts to be provoked!
I’d love to know if you plan to attend any of these events, and what you’ve got lined up for the rest of August. Remember that summer is also a great time to look for your new home, and I offer open houses most Sundays – please check the blog regularly for more details. And if you have any questions about Newfoundland MLS listings or real estate issues, please call anytime at 682-0744.
