Happy Canada Day!

Happy Canada Day wishes from a realtor in St. John's, Newfoundland

I’m wishing everyone a Happy Canada Day and a great long weekend. Remember, if you’re looking for some fun events in and around St. John’s, I’ve compiled a list here. I know quite a few clients who will be enjoying their first summer in their new homes. I’m sure for them, this long weekend will be a great start, with some friends over for a barbecue, some gardening, or maybe time for some home renovations. There’s nothing like your first long weekend in your new home!

Why I’m a Construction Buyers Agent

In my continual effort to provide superior service to my clients, I am a Construction Buyers Agent, a Canadian Trademark. The 14-week course required to gain this designation was well worth the effort, as I am now fully able and qualified to help clients navigate the often complicated process of building a new home. Some people are not aware that this service exists, so I’d like to take a minute to explain why I’m a Construction Buyers Agent.

House Design plans certifed by a Construction Buyers Agent

First, it is helpful to have a Construction Buyers Agent when building a new home for the same reason you’d want a realtor when buying one – we’re an impartial third-party solely focused on your needs. Building or buying a new home is a very emotional life event. Having an experienced agent at your side balances your excitement with an objective eye. Homes are big purchases and investments that most people only make at most a few times in their lives. On the contrary, I deal with real estate and home construction on a daily basis, so I can ensure you get exactly the house you want in exactly the shape you want it.

House design for a Construction Buyers Agent

Building a home offers many complications and intricacies that most people just aren’t aware of. But as a Construction Buyers Agent, I’m specially trained to navigate those intricacies. Your builder can help, but their loyalty is ultimately to their company, not to you. Rely on your builder alone and your needs will be underrepresented.

Floor Plan for new home construction

As a Construction Buyers Agent, I’ll work with you for the entire process of building your new home. I can help you determine which add-ons will add value to your home, and help keep overruns in check. I know which rebates you’ll qualify for and help you get them. And I know which pitfalls to avoid and how.  I’ll also do a walk-through with you, so you’ll know the end product matches your expectations. Ultimately, my goal is to make the building process stress-free and timely, and to make the result – your new home – better.

I’d love to know if you’ve had your own home built and how you felt about the experience, so please leave me a comment below (and as always, I’m available to my clients 24-7 at 709-682-0744). In my experience, clients have always benefited for the extra leg-up, and that’s why I’m proud to be a Construction Buyers Agent.

Please Help Us Help Easter Seals

Fundraiser for Easter Seals held by Newfoundland realtors

I’m sure most of us are familiar with Easter Seals and all the great work they do. This organization has made a big difference in so many lives, through maximizing the abilities and enhancing the lives of children and youth with disabilities through recreational, social and other therapeutic programs, direct assistance, education and advocacy.

That’s why I’m thrilled to be participating in their latest fundraiser – the Easter Seals Drop Zone. On July 27th, Team Hanlon will be repelling down Atlantic Place in downtown St. John’s. Yes – you heard that right. We’re suiting up and repelling down the side of a big building, to raise money for this excellent cause.

And to that end, I’m looking for sponsors to help us raise pledge money. It’s easy to sponsor me – simply head to this site and fill out your info. You’ll also get an electronic tax receipt.

Any brave souls looking to start their own team, do so here – the more the merrier! And please stay tuned to my blog, so you can see the action on July 27th. Thanks to Easter Seals for this great opportunity.

Happy Mother’s Day!

Mother's Day Greetings from a Realtor in St. John's, Newfoundland

Big ‘Happy Mother’s Day’ wishes to all the great moms out there – and mine’s at the top of that list! Being a realtor, I get to be a part of one of a family’s biggest decisions, and I’m with them as they journey through some difficult moments and decisions, until the happy moment when they get their keys. I’ve been blessed to get to know these families, and I’ve been a first-hand witness to some amazing moms. I’m wishing them all – and you – the happiest Mother’s Day possible.

Mother's Day wishes from a St. John's realtor

Here’s a little story I found that I think you’ll love ….

“When the Good Lord was creating mothers, He was into His sixth day of “overtime” when the angel appeared and said. “You’re doing a lot of fiddling around on this one.”

And God said, “Have you read the specs on this order? She has to be completely washable, but not plastic. Have 180 moveable parts…all replaceable. Run on black coffee and leftovers. Have a lap that disappears when she stands up. A kiss that can cure anything from a broken leg to a disappointed love affair. And six pairs of hands.”

The angel shook her head slowly and said. “Six pairs of hands…. no way.”

“It’s not the hands that are causing me problems,” God remarked, “it’s the three pairs of eyes that mothers have to have.”

“That’s on the standard model?” asked the angel. God nodded.

“One pair that sees through closed doors when she asks, ‘What are you kids doing in there?’ when she already knows. Another here in the back of her head that sees what she shouldn’t but what she has to know, and of course the ones here in front that can look at a child when he goofs up and say. ‘I understand and I love you’ without so much as uttering a word.”

“God,” said the angel touching his sleeve gently, “Get some rest ….”

“I can’t,” said God, “I’m so close to creating something so close to myself. Already I have one who heals herself when she is sick…can feed a family of six on one pound of hamburger…and can get a nine year old to stand under a shower.”

The angel circled the model of a mother very slowly. “It’s too soft,” she sighed.

“But tough!” said God excitedly. “You can imagine what this mother can do or endure.”

“Can it think?”

“Not only can it think, but it can reason and compromise,” said the Creator.

Finally, the angel bent over and ran her finger across the cheek.

“There’s a leak,” she pronounced. “I told You that You were trying to put too much into this model.”

“It’s not a leak,” said the Lord, “It’s a tear.”

“What’s it for?”

“It’s for joy, sadness, disappointment, pain, loneliness, and pride.”

“You are a genius, ” said the angel.

Somberly, God said, “I didn’t put it there.”
