Yes, we’ve been hit with that infamous Newfoundland trio of Rain, Drizzle and Fog lately, but that doesn’t mean there’s not lots of fun Spring events just around the corner. As a real estate agent, I sometimes get to help families settle in the St. John’s region, and I like to help them explore all the things that make this area great. Events like these coming up in May are certainly part of what makes our community wonderful – so keep reading to find some fun activities you can enjoy this Spring.
May 2 – Wonderbolt Circus Free Preview
Bring the kiddies to Jumping Bean Coffee on Water Street (former Hava Java location), for a FREE sneak preview of Wonderbolt Circus’ Bolt Out Of The Blue. Rain or shine, expect jugglers, hula-hoop demonstrations, and performers on stilts from this Cirque du Soleil style show. Jumping Bean Coffee will also be handing out free samples of their new Frappés. Sounds like a win-win – get all the details here.
May 2 – May Day Craft Celebration
After enjoying your circus, head over to the Anna Templeton Centre for a full day of events celebrating May Day. The day includes the Craft Supply Sale, Sin City Craft Market; Open House at the Quidi Vidi Village Plantation and Blue Moon Pottery; and craft demos & specials at the Heritage Shops, Newfoundland Chocolate Company and the Craft Council Shop & Clay Studio. Find more details here.
May 2 AND May 23 – Music at Quidi Vidi Village Plantation
New this year, the City of St. John’s will be regularly presenting Saturday afternoon concerts in the gorgeous Quidi Vidi Village. An hour of incredible local musical talent awaits. Find more details here.
May 6 – Free Backyard Compost Session
This is the year to learn about composting! St. John’s is offering lots of education and support this Spring, including this free information session at the Wedgewood Park Recreation Centre. Find all the details here.
May 10 – Fundraiser: Mother’s Day Brunch
Here’s the only paid event I’ve included in my list, because it’s a good cause and sounds like a great time, too. This brunch buffet at the Suncor Energy Fluvarium lets you celebrate Mother’s Day and support education work at The Fluvarium at the same time. Stories, Crafts and Feeding Time await are also offered after brunch. Find all the details here.
May 24 – Walk for Alzheimer’s
Come to Kenny’s Pond to join the Alzheimer Society in its Walk for Alzheimer’s. Many people walk in honour or memory of a loved one who’s lived with the disease, and it’s not too late to register. Or, come and cheer and show your support! Find all the details here.
I’d love to know if you’re planning to attend any of these events – please find me on Facebook and let me know! And as always, if you have any questions about Newfoundland real estate, please contact me anytime at 709-682-0744. And Happy Spring!
