It’s now officially summer, and something tells me this is going to be a great one. I’ve compiled a list of some of the main community events taking place in and around St.John’s this season – I hope you find it useful!
St. John’s
St.John’s Farmer’s Market – Every Saturday from June until December 20
Peruse vendors selling hot and cold prepared food, jams, pastries, art, jewelery, bath products and more. This Farmer’s Market has become a popular staple for all things homemade and local and it’s easy to see why. More details here.
Afternoon in the Garden – Every Wednesday until November 26
All are welcome to tour the MUN Botanical Garden with horticulture staff. No registration is required, but please dress appropriately for weather and walking. More details here.
Sound Symposium – July 4 – July 12
Nine days and nights of indoor and outdoor events bring St. John’s to life with new music and arts, held at venues all over the city. More details here.
Claire’s Loaded Dory Fair – July 5
This Souvenir and Gift fair, featuring over 40 local craft vendors and small businesses, helps support Easter Seals programs. Admission is $2, and kids under 12 are free. All will enjoy the live entertainment, prizes, and more. More details here.
Storytime in Bowring Park – Every Sunday from July 6 – August 24
A great way to entertain your children and get in some quality time, bring a blanket and listen to professional storytellers at the Peter Pan Statue in Bowring Park. Stories are appropriate for children aged 5 and up. More details here.
NL Folk Festival – August 8 – August 10
Enjoying its 38th year, this festival showcases the very best in traditional and contemporary folk music in our province. Please note that this year’s festivities will take place in Bowring Park. More details here.
Mount Pearl
Fitness Walk & Unveiling of Water Fountain – June 28
Join Mayor Randy Simms on a Fitness Walk from the Boat House at Powers Pond, along Mount Pearl’s beautiful scenic trails, and ending at the City’s new Water Fountain at the Lower Pond at Powers Pond Park. Healthy snacks and refreshments will be served. More details here.
Memorial Day Parade – July 1
Commemorate with the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 36. The parade begins at 10:30, and a special ceremony will take place at 11:00 at the War Memorial. More details here.
Mount Pearl City Days – July 18- July 20

Movie in the Park – August 14
Come at dusk to Centennial Park to enjoy an outdoor movie. Stay tuned for more details, and find them here.
Paradise
Take a Hike – Every Wednesday Afternoon from July 2 – August 20
These hikes for youth aged 13 – 18 get them outdoors, active, and developing an appreciation for nature. $2.00 a person, or $20 for a youth summer pass. More details here.
Youth in the Kitchen – July 22, August 26
Great program available for youth aged 13 – 18, who will create simple and delicious meals based on a special theme. More details here.
Tely 10 – July 28
The ever popular Tely 10 is in its 87th year. Come race alongside Paradise Mayor, Dan Bobbett, or cheer on the participants. More details here.
Body Quest Paradise Triathlon – August 24
Register, cheer or volunteer at this ultimate test of fitness and endurance, beginning at Octagon Pond in Paradise. More details here.
Town of Logy Bay – Middle Cove – Outer Cove
Community Marshmallow Roast and Town Council Meet and Greet, and Outdoor Movie Night – August 12
You bring the roasting sticks and council will bring the marshmallows. Don’t forget blankets and snacks for the family movie after at Kelly Park. More details here (PDF).
Annual Festival Golf Tournament – August 14

Family Fun Day with Community Walk and Horseshoe Tournament – August 16
Walk around Quidi Vidi Lake with proceeds going to the Heart and Stroke Foundation (pre-registration required). Come to Kelly Park for a day of family friendly fun, free of charge, and adults are invited to the horseshoe tournament. More details here (PDF).
